Research supports the use of communication boards as an effective way to reduce communication barriers, encourage language development and increase participation across everyday environments. When adults consistently model pointing to the symbols while they speak (known as Aided Language Stimulation or Aided Language Input), children receive repeated opportunities to see how symbols can be used to communicate in meaningful, real-life situations.
