The Core Signs Pack has been designed using evidence from Functional Communication Training (FCT) and early communication research. Rather than teaching signs in isolation, this resource focuses on highly functional words that children can use throughout everyday routines, play and social interactions.

These are often some of the first communicative functions children need to express—requesting, protesting, commenting, directing others and participating in shared activities.

By modelling these signs consistently during motivating moments, adults can support children to develop communication confidence while reducing frustration and creating more opportunities for meaningful interaction.
